The Citizens Academy is a free 12-week program designed to provide citizens who live and work in the city a unique opportunity to learn more about the Greenville Police Department (GPD). The academy features both a classroom setting, with presentations by GPD personnel from multiple divisions, and a variety of learning experiences outside the classroom.
Participants will gain firsthand knowledge about the inner workings of the department and see what officers and operators go through on a daily basis by visiting the communications center and participating in a ride-along with a GPD officer. The academy is offered annually in March, and most classes are held at the GPD Training Center at 688 Mauldin Road.
The 2017 Citizens Academy class begins on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, and will go through May 30, 2017. Sessions will be held every Tuesday beginning at 6:00 PM and will last until 8:30 PM each evening.
