GPD partners on Upstate Warrior Solution Suicide Awareness Training

Greenville Police Department is partnering with Upstate Warrior Solution in their sponsorship of one-day suicide prevention and training workshops in Greenville, Anderson and Spartanburg this week. 

These workshops, free of charge, are open to anyone wanting to learn about how to save the lives of those who are at risk for suicide. 

Armed Forces Mission, another military charity, will be providing the training. Their mission is engage in direct intervention with veterans who might be at risk for suicide or other challenges that require mental health first-aid. 

The workshop objectives include: 

• Engage those who are hurting and at risk  

• Increase personal awareness   

• Identify risk factors and warning signs   

• Discuss beliefs and attitudes about suicide   

• Understand the Listen - Learn - Lead model   

• Demonstrate the skill of asking the question   

• Recognize the various community resources 

Other partners are West Point Society of Upstate SC, the Palmetto Chapter of the US Naval Academy, Anderson University, the City of Greenville Police Department, and Spartanburg Community College.

The Greenville Police Department will have officers at the training range today learning from these groups about what to do when encountering veterans on various calls for service.
