GREAT Camp 2019

GRAVITY (Gang Reduction and Violence Intervention Targeting Youth) represents a partnership between law enforcement, health care, and social services designed to offer programs and support to at-risk youth of all ages with the goal of prevention, intervention, and suppression of gang activity. The programs that fall under the GRAVITY initiative are wide-ranging, but all have the common goal of ending gang violence in communities, and especially among youth.

Mission

The mission of GRAVITY is to offer gang and violence prevention, intervention, and suppression programs to at-risk youth, and to coordinate multi-agency communications and activities to respond more holistically to the problems associated with gang activity.

Goals

GRAVITY's primary goals are to:

  • Reduce firearm and gang-related violence
  • Provide diversion and support-based rehabilitation to individuals already involved in the justice system
  • Provide families with partnership and support
  • Foster community relationships
  • Increase coordination and communication to reduce gang activity in Greenville

GRAVITY Programs

The GRAVITY initiative is responsible for the creation and/or implementation of several programs in Greenville aimed at reducing gang violence, with more to follow.

Cops on the Court

Cops on the Court is an innovative program in which off-duty police officers play basketball with community youth in an effort to improve community relationships and provide mentoring to at-risk youth. More Basketball Information

Operation Real Time

Operation Real Time is a task force operated by the U.S. Attorney's Office in partnership with the Greenville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) that federally prosecutes repeat firearms offenders and targets repeat offenders who pose a serious danger to the community.

Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.)

G.R.E.A.T. is a federal program taught at the elementary and middle school levels designed to provide children with appropriate skills to resist gangs and gang violence.

OFFICER ALLEN JACOBS Summer Camp

GPD offers a one-week summer camp for 4th and 5th graders in Greenville County schools focused on developing positive role models and teaching skills for resisting gangs. More Camp Information

Gang Hotline

The Gang Hotline provides the public with a direct link to a GPD gang specialist for assistance in obtaining information about gangs, as well as help for parents of at-risk youth, help for gang members, or a referral into a partner program such as mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, and parenting support.
