Sediment and Erosion Control

ICAR_Water 002

Construction Inspection enforces sediment and erosion control regulations as required by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC or DHEC), and City Ordinances.

All land disturbing activities, except those specifically excluded by DHEC and City Ordinance, shall have the necessary protections in place to prevent erosion of soils on site and transportation of sediment off site. Certain Sites are required to have a National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.

Failure to comply with sediment and erosion control requirements can result in verbal warnings, written warnings, stop work orders, fines of up to $1,093.00 per day per offense, civil / criminal actions by the City and / or other possible enforcement actions by DHEC or the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA or EPA).
